Use A Gmail Template For The Challenge Posterous Posts

Are You Doing The Challenge This Year?

This year’s Challenge by Ed Dale and all is an exceptional step by step guide to getting up and running on affiliate marketing.  I highly recommend you take a look at it even if you’re a seasoned pro.  There’s something for everybody and it’s completely free!

Using Posterous To Post To Your Sites

One of the modules for the Challenge has us setting up a Posterous account so we can link together our other online accounts to make periodic posts across them all.  I’m not talking about building a bullshit link farm but setting up a high quality posting network that allows you to share valuable information with people interested in your niche.

Toward this end, we decide on what information to share and standardize it with a posterous post.  If you use Gmail, there is a shortcut I’m using to greatly reduce the time it takes to make these posts.

Making A Template Inside Gmail Labs

The first thing you need to do is decide what format you want your posterous posts to take.  Decide where you want your content, the links and a sentence or two about your niche site and lay it out in a gmail draft if you’d like.

Next, go to your gmail header and click on labs.  It’s located just to the right of your gmail address.  If you’re using any gmail lab services currently, it will just be a laboratory beaker.  Click on the link and scroll down until you see “canned responses”.  Here, you’ll be able to copy and paste the code you just saved into your draft into the template, name it and save it.  You can even put the posterous email address into the template.  I leave the subject blank so I remember to change it each time.

After you’ve saved the template and named it, all you’ll have to do each time you want to make a posterous post is click on “compose mail” and look under the subject line for a drop-down called “canned responses”.  Select the template you just created and you’re ready to go.

Of course, these canned response templates can be used for a whole lot more.  You can read about them inside the gmail labs section.  I hope this has been helpful for anybody wanted to save time in this year’s Challenge.
