You’re a newbie affiliate marketer so yo want to make sure you do what the “experts” tell
you to. You read that you should be blogging about a topic and drop the name of a product you are an affiliate of in there someplace. Then, you hope the reader will click on your link and follow it to the product’s sales page.
Sounds pretty simple, huh?
Well, according to Jim Edwards of MiniSiteCreator.com, this is the biggest mistake affiliate marketers make and it often ends up costing them sales if not their entire business.
Jim says that sending people directly to the product sales page means you lose out on a very important business building tool-building a list.
He says that you should instead be sending them to your email capture page and then on to the product sales page.
If you do this, you get the same benefit the product author does because you get people to sign up for your email list. This means you’ll be able to send them emails whenever you want to in the future and grab your share of the back-end sales.
I think you can see quickly why you don’t want to just direct customers, even with a paid link, to a product sales page before you’ve had a chance to get them on your list.
Here’s something else you probably didn’t think about…
If you use affiliate products to build your list you will be in a much better position when you decide to produce your own products. You’ll already have a targeted, loyal following that you’ll be able to simply send an email to instead of paying to get traffic to your site.
So, the next time you’re tempted to just cut and paste an affiliate link into a blog posting-THINK TWICE! Get those people to your opt-in page and start building a business instead of building somebody else’s.
