We Need To Save Our Ideas
All of us are constantly looking for ways to streamline our businesses and become more productive. One of the ways we do this is to consolidate our planning and doing processes. We’re being told all the time to keep a small notebook with us so we can write down ideas that come to us. Whether they’re for articles or products or ways to expand our reach, we’re told to get as much down as we can as quickly as we can so the details don’t slip away from us. We all know how frustrating it can be to look at our chicken scratch note and not be able to figure out what the hell we were thinking. We could end up like Jerry in the Seinfeld episode where he writes down a joke idea half asleep and then spends the entire episode trying to get it deciphered only to find out it was crap to begin with.
Recording Ideas Where They Help Most
Finding a place to keep these ideas has always been a bit of a challenge for me. On one hand, I want it to be some place I do my daily review of goals and projects. On the other, I don’t want to have to remember to start an article about so and so in my planning area and hope it will make it to fruition as an actual post.
If you use WordPress for your site I recommend the following. When that idea hits you, log into the site that deals most closely with the topic and create at least a title and a few short sentences explaining the idea and save it as a draft. If you’re mobile don’t forget WordPress has apps for Android, iPhone and iPad. Don’t worry about getting everything perfect. Get as much detail as you feel you have about the idea, get it into a wordpress post and just save it as a draft. Then tomorrow, you can revisit it and see if you can expand it into a complete thought. If so, set your 10 minute timer and write as much as you can about it and stop when the timer goes off. Put it away for another day.
Finally, you’ll be able to go back into it with an editor’s hat and clean it up for publishing if it’s an actual post or copying it into your projects document or wherever you store your business ideas. You could even email it to yourself if that’s where you keep your best business ideas.
