WordPress Quick Tip Alert
I wanted to give you a heads-up that the recent update to the All In One SEO plugin for WordPress is doing something you may not want. It has added two fields to the posts dashboard of SEO Title and SEO Description which can, one a lower monitor resolution, cause your posts to take up 3 times the screen real estate in the vertical direction. It’s not a big deal, it just makes them hard to read.
I did notice another behavior you will want to pay attention to.
Post Title Change At Top Of Browser
I just finished another post on a different site where I optimized the post title, tags and keywords. When I published the post, I noticed the post title at the top of my browser window was changed from the article title to either the tag or the first keyword. NOT what I want to display. Not only is it not the title of the post but it’s also all in lower case which just looks stupid.
Change I Made
I had to think to myself what would cause this and then I remembered. The All In One SEO plugin had been updated since the last post on that site. I opened up the post in edit mode and scrolled down to the AIOSEO fields. There it was. It had replaced the post title with the tag or first keyword. I say either because on this post they were the exact same. So, I’m not sure which it was. I deleted the entry in that field, updated the post, went back to the home page and clicked on the post again. All was correct once again.
Tell Me I’m Wrong
I understand that you want you target keywords in your title and reinforced by your copy, tags and category where possible. I don’t want lower case tags used in my browser window display for my readers to be confused or think I’m just sloppy.
I welcome any and all discussion about whether this should be done. I know it’s not huge. I would just recommend you pay attention if you use that plugin to the SEO title it’s filling for you.
